Privacy policy
Last updated 2026-07-08.
The short version
InTheSun works without accounts or sign-ups. We do not ask for your name, email, or phone number. We do not use ad trackers. Everything you see on the map comes from static files served over HTTPS.
What we store locally in your browser
- Your last map position and zoom level, so the app opens where you left it. Stored in localStorage, never sent anywhere.
- Your language preference if you accepted a language suggestion. Also localStorage.
- Anonymous crash reports if something goes wrong. These go to Sentry (an error-monitoring service) and contain no personal identifiers.
Third-party services we use
- Cartography tiles served by CARTO. Standard web-server logs on their end.
- Weather data from Open-Meteo, requested by your browser directly. They do not track you.
- Google Places for venue photos and Google Maps for the Street View embed. Google may set cookies via those embeds; see their privacy policy.
- Sentry, for crash reporting only. Reports pass through our own server before reaching Sentry. They contain technical details about the error (browser, OS, what the app was doing) but no name, email, or IP address.
Things we do NOT do
- No accounts, no sign-ups, no email addresses.
- No advertising, no ad-network trackers.
- We never sell or share your data with anyone.
- We never use your location unless you tap the location button. See below.
Location button
The map has a location button in the corner. If you tap it, your device will ask for permission and, if you agree, use your location to center the map and show a marker where you are. Your position updates the map view continuously while the location button is on. We do not store your coordinates or send them anywhere.
Your rights
Because we do not collect anything tied to you personally, there is no account to close or personal data to erase. You can clear the app in your browser settings any time (site data and cookies). Emailing us with a data request will get an honest answer of "we do not have any".
